Calcasieu Parish Libraries Reopen After Conoravirus Closures

The Calcasieu Public Library System is now open to the public after being closed due to the coronvirus pandemic for nearly three months.

The local library staffs have been hard at work sanitizing all the books and computers at their respective facilitates. The Central branch opened its doors yesterday, and manager Carly Searcy told KPLC it was great to see traffic in her library again.

All Calcasieu Parish Library branches are operational. However, they will maintain a reduced capacity in the buildings. Currently, only 100 people will be allowed into each library at one time.

Searcy told KPLC she usually has about 75 - 100 people in her branch at one time and at the busy times of the day, you can expect around 400 people.

The libraries' hours of operation have changed to help accommodate all the new measures to keep visitors safe. They will be open Monday – Friday from 9:00am to 6:00pm, with the exception of the Hayes and Starks branches which will both be open at their normal operating hours.

All branches will continue to be sanitized per CDC guidelines to protect the community. Visitors will be asked to wear a mask to enter the facilities and to practice social distancing. Curbside service will remain available at all library branches, and they've strengthened their WIFI to reach into the parking lots so visitors can use it after hours.

If you had something checked out during the pandemic, don't worry. All late fees have been waived.
