Carnival Cruise Line announced on Wednesday that it is canceling all cruises for one of its two ships that operate out of New Orleans until 2021.

Carnival Valor, which typically operates four and five-day cruises year-round to Cozumel and Progresso, Mexico, will be undergoing dry dock maintenance as part of Carnival's ship enhancement program.

As a result, all of Valor's New Orleans itineraries will be canceled through April 29, 2021.

Carnival said guests will receive a letter with more details about their cruises.

The Valor now makes it four ships from Carnival that canceled itineraries due to the dry dock enhancements.

The big question among cruisegoers is "when will cruising as a whole return?" Well, the last No Sail Order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had put a halt on cruising through the end of September. However, many people we know have had their cruises scheduled for dates in October and November canceled.

There could be some movement on this front though. Just yesterday, U.S. Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio introduced the Set Sail Safely Act. The bill creates a Maritime Task Force focused on health, safety, security and logistical changes to allow cruise lines and ports to resume operations.

At its heart, the Set Sail Safely Act would do two basic things:

  • Require the proper federal agencies, led by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, to work together with input from private sector stakeholders to develop a plan for the safe resumption of cruise line operations.
  • Create a timeline for meetings of the Task Force, recommendations, and implementation of the Task Force's recommendations.
