If you haven't received your federal coronavirus pandemic stimulus check yet, then soon you might be getting an Economic Impact Payment debit card in the mail.

We've been hit hard here in SWLA with scams lately, but Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry wants you to know that these cards are not a scam. The cards will be from a company called Money Network Cardholder Services and contain your stimulus money.

AG Landry had this to say in a recent press release:

It is great that Louisiana consumers are being cautious in the wake of the many Coronavirus scams we have seen. I want our State to know that the federal government is indeed sending debit cards to some people and that those recipients should follow all directions provided with the prepaid cards.

The Visa prepaid card will be delivered to your mailbox in a plain envelope. You will need to activate it before you use the card. Landry says that means you'll have to input the last six digits of your social security number. He also pointed out that everyone should read the instructions that come with the card carefully, so you'll know exactly how to activate the card and get it ready for use.

For more information about the card, click here. Also on this website are ATM locations where you can take cash off of your card without paying ATM fees.

AG Landry also cautions Louisiana residents that if someone calls, texts, or emails asking for your information or information about your card, hang up on them.
