Lake Charles Teacher Arrested on Student Related Sex Charges

Tuesday in Lake Charles, the last day of April saw the CPSO responding to a complaint from the administration at Lake Charles Charter Academy regarding a teacher-student relationship.

The deputies arrested Deidre R Smith, 34, for allegedly having inappropriate contact with one of her ten-year-old students. It was learned this may have included sexual intercourse since the end of 2018.

Smith was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center and charged with first-degree rape and felony indecent behavior with a juvenile.

Judge Robert Wyatt set bond at $50,000, and she was released yesterday afternoon. According to CPSO lead Detective, Jacob Dore, the case is still under investigation and more charges are likely.
