There was great news for Cowboy fans coming out of the Southland Conference Media Days yesterday.

Southland Conference Commissioner Tom Burnett had this to say:

We are planning to proceed with the 2020 football season as scheduled, I would stress in the fall we want our fans there. Our athletic directors, our presidents want to have full stadiums for whatever capacity by percentage they can have.

If you're paying attention to the sports world right now, you've probably heard of other football conferences changing their schedules due to the coronaviurs pandemic. The Big Ten will only play conference games, and the SWAC will now play their football season in the spring.

Burnett was questioned about the quickly changing landscape in college football and how that will affect the Southland Conference:

To some degree we’re going to have to be responsive to what other conferences do, but right now our intent is to motor forward and play the schedule as it currently lies.

McNeese President Dr. Daryl Burckel told KPLC he thinks the university can provide a safe game day experience for fans, and if the conference asks if the Pokes want to play football the answer is, "Yes."  He went on to say the team is playing football until they are told no.

President Burckel also mentioned they are planning to have one side of the stadium for fans who wish to social distance and the other side of the stadium for those who want a more traditional game day setting.

The Cowboys begin fall camp on August 7.
