The coronavirus has flipped our world upside down recently, and now it's causing us to miss out on one of the greatest events on the planet: the World Championship Gumbo Cook-Off.

Organizers of the 2020 World Championship Gumbo Cook-Off say they waited as long as they could before making a decision on the competition for later this year. The event will be held virtually.

It's disappointing to have another awesome event right down the road from SWLA altered due to COVID-19, especially when it comes to smelling and tasting gumbos all day long.

There's no word yet what a virtual gumbo competition will be like, but the organizers say they are in the "working it out" phase of brainstorming how they can make it work. If you have any ideas how this event could be successfully held virtually, go ahead and reach out to them on their Facebook page and give your suggestions.

They did say they plan on having an in-person event next year on October 9-10 in 2021, so go ahead and mark your calendar today so you don't forget.
